MAJORITY OF FILIPINOS FIND ‘AYUDA’ PROGRAMS ‘HELPFUL’ — SWS

Manila, Philippines — Most Filipinos say that they find the social welfare programs of the government as helpful, based on the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.

According to the Stratbase-SWS survey results, 90% of Filipinos believes that the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) is helpful to them—66% of this saying that the program is very helpful and 24% saying that it is somewhat helpful.

4Ps programs provides subsidies for poor and near-poor families, with the condition that the beneficiaries should have their children get medical checkups and ensure that they attend school.

88% of the respondents find the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program helpful, with only 12% saying otherwise.

TUPAD is the flagship emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment intended for displaced workers in the informal sector.

Meanwhile, Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) and Walang Gutom Program both had 81% of of Filipinos agreeing that these programs are helpful, while Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) got 70% saying it is helpful.

AKAP and AICS are both programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), providing financial assistance for minimum-wage earners and assistance for crisis situations, respectively. Walang gutom Program is formerly the food stamp program of the government.
