MANILA LGU REDUCES AT LEAST 50% OF FUEL CONSUMPTION AMID MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT

Manila, Philippines – In response to the looming oil crisis caused by escalating tensions in the Middle East, Mayor Francisco ‘Isko’ Moreno Domagoso signed Executive Order No. 7, Series of 2026, which aims to reduce the use of petroleum products in the city of Manila.

The order covers all departments and offices of the city, including the use of official vehicles, generator sets, heavy equipment, and other fuel-consuming equipment.

According to Mayor Isko Moreno, under the proposal, fuel consumption in all departments, bureaus, and offices of the city government is required to be reduced by at least 50%.

The city aims to reduce fuel consumption and ensure the efficient use of limited supplies amid the US-Israel vs. Iran.

However, the mayor clarified that services related to emergency responses and essential city operations are not covered by the restriction.

This includes police, fire, ambulance, disaster response, healthcare services, garbage collection and hauling, traffic management, and other services that may be declared essential.

Meanwhile, the LGU will temporarily ban “non-essential travel” and all “study trips” and trips abroad unless they are critical or emergencies.

Switching off power every 5 p.m. will also be implemented in hospitals operated by the Manila LGU; meetings conducted by the city government for barangays, health centers, hospitals, and district satellites will also be held online.

Graduation ceremonies for public elementary and secondary schools will also be held inside their respective campuses to reduce travel and the use of vehicles by families. The mayor also called on the private sector to cooperate in the launch of the measure.

Along with this, the public was also advised to use only sufficient fuel to maintain an adequate supply of fuel in the city.—Grachella Corazon, Eurotv News
