Manila, Philippines – Amid the present corruption scandal in the country, the public outcry for transparency and accountability grew louder.
Responding to these calls, some lawmakers have already voluntarily disclosed the copy of their Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and NetWorth (SALN).
Regarding the SALN of the Office of the President and of the Cabinet, Palace says that a meeting is already scheduled to discuss this matter.
In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro’ only confirmation was about the President and his Cabinet members’ scheduled talk on Saturday.
When asked about possible re-imposement of mandatory SALN release policy among the members of the Cabinet, Castro had a brief remark, “we’ll see if it is needed’.
It can be recalled that the Office of the ombudsman has initiated the reversal of the former ombudsman’s mandate limiting public access on SALNs of government officials.
This is to aim of allowing public monitoring and scrutiny of public servants’ wealth against possible corruption attempts.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
