Camp Crame, Quezon City — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially approved the four months extension term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Marbil.
President Marcos approved Marbil’s term through a memorandum dated January 4, 2025 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed in a statement.
Marbil—the 30th PNP chief—became the commander of the PNP top post on April 1, 2024 and a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Sambisig Class of 1991.
He previously headed the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership and served as the regional director of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), as well as the director of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
Marbil’s extension will be effective on February 7, which is his mandatory retirement day at age 56.
Meanwhile, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that Marbil’s extension will not create any issue within the national police.
Marbil thanked President Marcos for his trust in the leadership of the highest police force, expressing commitment that during his extended term, he will try to improve the preparations for the elections in May.
This is not the first time that the sitting president has extended the term of the chief, some of whom have also extended for the post is retired Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr.
