Manila, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the scheduled visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the United States from July 20 to 22.
The DFA echoed the earlier confirmation from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to the DFA, they are already coordinating with the US State Department to finalize the details of the president’s visit to Washington.
In a separate statement, the Malacañang Palace also confirmed the president’s visit to America.
Rubio said the confirmation from the US was made on the sidelines of the Trilateral Foreign Minister’s Meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Japan, the US and the Philippines.
According to Rubio, they look forward to hosting President Marcos’ visit to Washington in the coming days.
This will be Marcos’ first visit to the US, under the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The imposition of reciprocal tariffs, strengthening defense and security, and other important alliances between the United States and the Philippines are expected to be discussed.
Currently, negotiations are ongoing between the economic teams of the United States and the Philippines to alleviate the impact of the 20% tariff imposed on the country.
Marcos last visited the US in April 2024, where Manila and Washington discussed strengthening economic ties, foreign investments, and expanding cooperation in infrastructure and energy. —Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
