MARCOS TO FORM INDEPENDENT COMMISSION TO PROBE FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS

Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to announce the members of an independent body that will investigate alleged anomalies in the government’s flood control projects.

According to the President, the commission will be separate from the government and will be composed of lawyers, magistrates, investigators, and forensic accountants.

It will be given the authority to issue recommendations and conclusions on who should face charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the Office of the Ombudsman.

“There’s no formal name yet, but that’s what we are forming an independent commission to investigate these alleged anomalies in the flood control projects. As for the personalities, I don’t want to preempt the actual announcement since it’s not yet finalized, but it will be soon,” Marcos said.

The President also stressed that the independent commission would spare no one, as its investigation will include relatives of politicians as well as political allies.

“They will have the authority to investigate anything and anyone. Otherwise, then what, then they will say that there is another sacred cow, that there are some being protected because of politics, whatever. If that happens, then the investigation will be meaningless,” Marcos said.—Chelsea Victoriano, Contributor
