MAZA JOINS SENATORIAL SLATE OF MAKABAYAN COALITION FOR 2025 POLLS

Manila Philippines — The Makabayang Koalisyon ng Mamamayan (MAKABAYAN) has named the fourth candidate they will support to run in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

The fourth among the twelve senatorial slate formed by Makabayan is former representative of Gabriela in Congress, Liza Maza.

According to Makabayan co-chair Neri Colmenares, Maza has invaluable experience in Congress and her advocacy for women’s rights and marginalized sectors.

“We are excited to have former Rep. Liza Maza join the Makabayan senatorial slate. Her extensive experience as a legislator and advocate for women’s rights and the marginalized sectors will be invaluable in the Senate,” said Colmenares in a statement.

During her term in the Congress as the representative of Gabriela, Maza has passed several laws such as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, the Anti-Violence Against Women and the Children Act (Anti-VAWC), and the Juvenile Justice Act that continues to protect and promote the rights of marginalized sectors in the country.

Apart from Maza, Makabayan has already named ACT Teachers Partylist Representative France Castro, Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Arlene Brosas and

Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) Secretary General Jerome Adonis who is among the 12 senatorial slate.

Other Makabayan members expressed support to Maza.

According to Brosas, Maza’s dedication is great when it comes to promoting women’s rights and social justice.
