Manila, Philippines — After 14 years of detention in Indonesia, Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipino domestic worker convicted of drug trafficking, will be housed at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has confirmed preparations at CIW for Veloso’s arrival upon her return to the Philippines on Wednesday (December 18, 2024), 6 a.m.
Veloso will occupy a cell previously used by high-profile detainees, including Cassandra Li Ong, who was linked to the controversial Pampanga POGO operations, according to a report.
She will initially stay in quarantine for five days, followed by a 55-day orientation and security evaluation.
Veloso’s detention will also follow standard procedures, including integration into the correctional system, while legal and diplomatic efforts continue to secure her clemency.
