MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed that seven fatalities resulted from flooding in Mindanao triggered by thunderstorms and the intertropical convergence zone.
According to the NDRRMC report released Wednesday afternoon, four deaths occurred in the Zamboanga Peninsula, with one each in Northern Mindanao, the Davao Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The floods affected 482,464 individuals or 99,186 families across 378 villages in Regions 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 10 (Northern Mindanao), 11 (Davao), 12 (SOCCSKSARGEN), and BARMM. SOCCSKSARGEN includes South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos.
Damage assessment revealed 111 houses were affected, amounting to P2,116,000, with 65 partially damaged and 46 completely destroyed. Agricultural losses were estimated at P17,879,687, while infrastructure damage reached P700,000.
