Manila, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the start of construction on a new, modern footbridge to replace the steep and unpopular “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge along EDSA in Quezon City.
The ₱33.2 million project will feature a lower structure with an elevator, making it more accessible for seniors, persons with disabilities, and commuters with heavy belongings. It will directly link to the Kamuning Busway Station and include upgraded amenities such as new lighting, digital clocks, renovated platforms, waiting sheds, and weather protection features.
DOTr Sec. Vince Dizon assured the public that the EDSA Busway’s operations will continue uninterrupted during the construction.
The initiative follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive last June to provide a safer and more commuter-friendly crossing. Local officials, including Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Rep. Franz Pumaren, joined the launch ceremony alongside representatives from the DPWH and MMDA.-Katheryn Landicho, Eurotv News
