Manila Philippines — The newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, His Excellency Maris Sangiampongsa, is scheduled to visit the country on July 4th.
Based on the confirmation of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), this is the first visit to the country by Foreign Minister Maris since being appointed to the position.
Maris was appointed as the new Foreign Ministry of Thailand on May 3, 2024 after the resignation of the former Foreign Minister.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and Foreign Minister Maris are scheduled to discuss cooperation in bilateral relations between the Philippines and Thailand.
This includes convening the 6th PH-Thailand Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting, discussing regional and international issues, as well as the situation in the South China Sea, Myanmar and Gaza strip.
“Secretary Enrique A. Manalo and Foreign Minister Maris will discuss bilateral areas of cooperation, including the proposed convening of the 6th Meeting of the Philippines-Thailand Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of common concern, including the situation in the South China Sea, Myanmar, and Gaza,’ according to the DFA statement.
The visit of the new Foreign Ministry to the country is an auspicious occasion amid with the celebration of the 75th year of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Treaty of Friendship between the Philippines and Thailand was established in 1949.
“The visit takes place at an auspicious occasion when the Philippines and Thailand are celebrating this year the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations, which were established through the signing of a Treaty of Friendship in 1949,” added the DFA.
The Philippines and Thailand is said to have robust relationships as members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
