Manila Philippines — Nagpahayag ng papuri ang National Security Council (NSC) sa pagpasa ng Senado sa Archipelagic Sea Lanes (ASL) Bill para sa pagpapalawak ng kapasidad ng gobyerno sa maritime domain ng Pilipinas.
Ayon sa National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) sumasalim ang naturang panukala sa pangangailangan ng pamahalaan na magkaroon ng strategic investments pagdating sa seguridad sa karagatan, gayundin sa maritime domain, sustainability at maritime law enforcement.
“The NTF-WPS recognizes the strategic importance of maritime legislation, which will bring attention to the proper scope of the Philippine maritime domain and the need for strategic investments in maritime security, maritime domain awareness, maritime law enforcement, sustainability of marine resources and protection of the marine environment,” sabi ng NTF-WPS sa isang pahayag.
Pinuri rin ng task ang mga mambabatas sa mabilis na pagtalakay sa panukala upang matiyak ang seguridad ng mga interest ng mga Pilipino pagdating sa pagpoprotekha sa soberanya ng Pilipinas.
“We commend our legislators for their steadfast commitment to safeguard the interests of the Filipino people, particularly the legacy as a maritime and archipelagic people and nation, and promote our common advocacy for a rules-based international order,” sabi pa ng Task force.
Noong Martes ipinasa ng senado sa ikatlo at huling pagdinig ang Senate Bill. No. 2665 o ang ASL bill.
Layon ng panukalang ito na magtakda ng mga sea lanes at air routes sa mga foreign vessels at patuloy na maipakita ang nararapat na sea lanes passage.
Inaasahan namang maipapasa ng mababang kapulungan ng kongreso ang kanilang bersyon sa Disyembre.
