NSC, PRAISES CREATION OF NEW PCG STATION IN ITBAYAT, BATANES

Itbayat, Batanes — The National Security Council praised the establishment of a new Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station in Itbayat, Batanes.

NSC Adviser Eduardo Año personally attended the inauguration of the new PCG station in one of the northernmost inhabitated municipalities.

According to Año, through this project, maritime domain awareness will be promoted and will  strengthens the security measures in the Luzon Strait.

“The establishment of this new monitoring station is a strategic move to enhance maritime domain awareness and strengthen security measures along the Luzon Strait, a vital international waterway,” said Año.

Año also emphasized that Itbayat is a witness to the build-up of China’s military in response to the developments between Taiwan and the United States.

“In 2022, the area around Itbayat witnessed a military build-up as China responded to political developments between Taiwan and the United States. China’s corresponding naval response was observed in the Luzon Strait,” the secretary added.

The new PCG station will serve as a post that gathers maritime data, so that the agency can immediately respond to any type of foreign intrusions.

The secretary has likewise assured that no region in the country will be left behind in ensuring a peaceful, safe and progressive country.
