MANILA — National University (NU) breezed past Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 25-15, 25-7, 25-13, securing their second consecutive win in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The reigning champions now hold a share of the lead in Pool A, tying with idle Arellano University at 2-0. NU kicked off their campaign earlier with a four-set victory over Ateneo de Manila University.
The Lady Bulldogs needed just 77 minutes to claim victory, with Arah Panique leading the charge with 10 points, while Bella Belen and reigning SSL MVP Alyssa Solomon contributed seven points each.
NU outperformed EAC in all aspects, recording 41 attack points to the Lady Generals’ 11.
The Lady Bulldogs also tallied 10 kill blocks and capitalized on EAC’s erratic first ball to score 10 service aces.
Panique sealed the match with consecutive aces, saying, “Ang challenge ngayon is marami pa kaming errors and siguro work on sa mga kulang pa namin and kailangan pang i-improve,” noting that 22 of EAC’s points came from NU’s unforced errors.
NU’s dominance was particularly evident in the second set, which they won in just 20 minutes.
Belen and Solomon, along with other second-string players, powered the team to an 11-0 lead, cruising to victory despite EAC gaining six of their seven points from NU’s errors.
EAC remains winless at 0-2, with Alessandra Razonable leading their scorers with five points.
