Overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Mary Jane Veloso who has been on death row in Indonesia will soon return to the Philippines after more than a decade.
“After over a decade of diplomacy and consultations with the Indonesian government, we managed to delay her execution long enough to reach an agreement to finally bring her back to the Philippines,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced on Wednesday, November 20 in social media.
PBBM expressed his gratitude to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the Indonesian government, emphasizing this outcome as a reflection “for their goodwill,” uniting the two nations for commitments in “justice” and “compassion”.
“Thank you, Indonesia. We look forward to welcoming Mary Jane home,” he added.
Veloso was arrested in Indonesia in 2010 for drug trafficking and sentenced to death the same year.
