Manila, Philippines – Filipino-American pop star Olivia Rodrigo released a vlog today documenting her first ever visit to the Philippines.
The vlog captured her experiences leading up to her GUTS tour stop at the Philippine Arena on October 5, where she performed for her fellow kababayans.
“I’m half Filipino. My dad’s side of family is Filipino. Always been on my bucket list, I’ve always wanted to come here for as long as I can remember and it’s gonna be really fun and I’m just so happy to be here. It feels really awesome. Actually, it’s a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to come,” she said in her vlog while exploring the historic Intramuros in Manila.
Alongside with her dad, the three-time Grammy award winner also coursed trough the place riding a bike.
She also enjoyed a mouth-watering Filipino boodle fight feast at Sarsa, prepared by renowned chef JP Anglo.
“I’m very excited to eat all the Filipino food I grew up eating. My favorite dessert is halo-halo,” Olivia said with a smile.
She also made a stop at Jhpiego Philippines’ headquarters, a foundation championing young girls and women’s health, where she donated all the proceeds of her concert.
“We’re doing this thing called Silver Star tickets which is essentially where every ticket in the house is under 26 dollars. Those tickets support this incredible charity in the Philippines called Jhpiego just champions women and girls’ health so we will go and visit them today and I’m really excited to hear more of what they do,” she said.
During the concert night, Olivia performed for thousands of adoring fans at the Philippine Arena. One standout moment was when she donned a sash coming from a fan reading “Miss So Filipina” before singing her hit track “So American”.
Reflecting on the Gut-filled night, Olivia went emotional, “I’m just so emotional… I’m just thinking about my family the whole time… It’s just beautiful and I’m so grateful that everyone came, and it was so much fun and I just feel like the luckiest girl that ever lived.”
