Pasay City, Philippines — Ahead of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, the House Secretary General conducted an inspection on the Senate premises, to ensure its preparedness for the upcoming trial.
On Tuesday, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco first visited the Session Hall where the impeachment will be held, and was accompanied by Senate Secretary Renato Bantug.
Velasco said that he is pleased and happy with the Senate’s set-up for the trial and that he does not have any complaints.
He noted its similarity to the Senate’s set-up during the past impeachment trial against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, and that it is the ideal set-up.
“This is our first visit here and we’re very happy with the setup. We have no comments, no complaints. But we’re happy that the Senate is joining us. We are one with this forthcoming event,” Velasco said.
House prosecutors also started the mock impeachment trial that will serve as a practice of the actual trial.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Martin Romualdez says that the House Prosecutors are already ready to present the impeachment articles as soon as the court convenes.
Once the Senate resumes on June 2, the House prosecutors can present the impeachment articles in the impeachment court.
“Kami in the House, we are almost there with our preparations. We are ready to have the trial anytime upon the approval of the Senate we’re ready to implement, prosecute the seven articles of impeachment,” Velasco added.
