PACQUIAO VS BARRIOS ENDS IN A DRAW

Manny “PacMan” Pacquiao looked like his former self as he battled Mario Barrios for the Welterweight belt in World Boxing Council (WBC) on July 20.

With the 46-year old Pinoy boxer stepping out of retirement and going in the ring after almost four years, age does not really matter for Pacquiao.

He defied all odds and showed there is still a lot left in his tank; making the anticipated fight worth it for the fans.

It’s as if he’s still in his prime the way he moves and throws combinations of punches, making the 30-year old Barrios uncomfortable in the match.

With his stamina, he can still crack and he’s still strong as hell. His timing, his rhythm, everything. He was still a very awkward fighter to figure out,” Mario Barrios said.

It was pure cinema: a 46-year old boxer legend proving himself that he can still compete at the highest level against the reigning Welterweight champion defending the title.

The 12-round fight was preceded by the judges’ score cards. Two judges scored 114-114, while judge Max de Luca scored 115-113 on Barrios.

The three official judges overruled the 115-113 score on Barrios with their two 114-114 scores, which resulted in the fight between two amazing boxers a draw.

Although Pacquiao’s effort wasn’t enough to be crowned champion once again, he undeniably shook the whole world with his performance.

Mario Barrios praised Pacquiao as he honors him with this experience and his accomplishment in the sport.

“But I still tip my hat to Manny. It was an honor to share the ring with him, somebody with so much experience who has accomplished so much in this sport. We left everything in the ring, nothing but love and respect,” Barrios said after fighting the 46-year old Manny Pacquiao.

Barrios is said to be open to having a rematch with Pacquiao someday.

“Absolutely [I would take the rematch], this was huge for boxing,” Barrios’ response.

Meanwhile, his two co-Filipino boxers managed to win their fight in the undercard bout.
