Manila, Philippines – Senator Robin Padilla takes his leave as president of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), which will be replaced by Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte who is the party’s executive vice president.
PDP-Laban confirmed Padilla’s resignation, saying that the Senator will focus on his duties as a Senator in the forthcoming 20th Congress.
Based on the rule of succession stipulated in the PDP-Laban party constitution, Baste will assume as the party’s president.
According to a statement from the PDP, Padilla served his duty during the campaign period of the party in a recently concluded 2025 midterm elections.
Padilla said in a letter submitted to PDP Party Vice-Chairman Alfonso Cusi that the senator only wants to focus on his duties as a senator, particularly during the opening of the 20th Congress.
Despite this, the senator assured that he will remain a member of PDP-Laban and his loyalty to former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is the concurrent chairman of the party.
Duterte, remains detained at Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands due to a crimes against humanity case related to his bloody campaign against illegal drugs in the Philippines.
