Palace Suspends Work in Government Offices, Classes in NCR

MANILA — Malacañang has declared the suspension of work in government offices and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) effective from 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23.

The suspension is due to the continuous rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Carina. However, it was clarified that agencies involved in delivering basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other essential services will continue their operations.

The decision regarding the suspension of work in private companies has been left to the discretion of their respective heads.

This directive was outlined in a memo circular signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

In addition, both the Senate and the House of Representatives have implemented shortened work hours for the day.

“Upon instruction of Senate President Francis ‘Chiz’ G. Escudero, Senate secretariat officers and employees who are not assigned specific tasks for the conduct of the plenary session today are allowed to go home at 2:30 p.m.,” read the advisory signed by Senate Secretary Atty. Renato N. Bantug Jr.

“Work is hereby suspended at 3:00 p.m. today,” an advisory issued by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco stated. “However, those involved in committee hearings and/or in charge of security and technical services/operations shall continue with their respective tasks.”
