MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) announced on Friday that NorthPort player John Amores has been suspended for the upcoming conference without pay due to “conduct detrimental to the league.”
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial’s decision, coordinated with NorthPort management, was revealed by Atty. Ogie Narvasa during the halftime of the Rain or Shine vs. TNT game.
“John Amores will be suspended for all his games in the next conference of the PBA’s Season 49 without pay for conduct detrimental to the league,” the statement read.
The PBA also emphasized that Amores needs to address his “anger and violent tendencies” before returning to the league.
To reintegrate, he will need to undergo a program approved by the PBA and obtain clearance.
Amores was made aware of the decision following an earlier incident where he and his brother turned themselves in to authorities after a CCTV camera captured him firing a gun at a man following a basketball game in Lumban.
Both brothers were later released after posting bail.
The CCTV footage showed Amores dismounting from a motorcycle driven by his younger brother in Barangay Maytalang Uno before firing his weapon at the individual.
Fortunately, the victim was unharmed, and no bystanders were injured in the incident.
According to Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz, chief of the Lumban Police Station, the altercation stemmed from a heated dispute over a contested call during a basketball game in Barangay Salac prior to the shooting.
