Washington, D.C. — A Week before his fourth State of the Nation (SONA) address, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has officially landed in the United States for a three-day working visit after an invitation from the state.
Arriving at Joint Base Andrews on Sunday afternoon (Monday morning in Manila), the President was welcomed by Philippine and American officials, including Philippine to the US Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez and US to the Philippines Ambassador MaryKay Carlson.
Marcos upcoming meeting is expected to dive into some of the most urgent issues affecting both countries about the following:
• Bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump focusing on economic ties, defense, and security matters.
• Discussions on the 20% US tariff imposed on PH goods.
• Meeting with US businesses, aligned with PH government priorities.
“This visit isn’t just about tradition,” Marcos said before departing Manila. “It’s about protecting our national interests and making sure the Philippines is part of global conversations that shape the future.”
Marcos is the first Southeast Asian leader invited by President Donald Trump since his return to office.
