MANILA PHILIPPINES – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended on Tuesday his support to the new leadership of the Senate as he banks on the legislative credentials of newly installed Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
In a statement, President Marcos expressed confidence that transformative laws aimed at achieving a common vision for a “Bagong Pilipinas” will remain a priority under the leadership of Senate President Escudero.
President Marcos also commended Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri for his outstanding performance as former senate president.
“I extend my support to the new Senate President, Chiz Escudero. His legislative record and commitment to public service have distinguished him as a dedicated leader,” President Marcos said in a statement.
“Senator Chiz steps into this role following the commendable tenure of Senator Migz Zubiri, and I am confident that under his leadership, the Senate will continue to prioritize transformative laws to achieve our shared vision for a Bagong Pilipinas,” he stated.
Meanwhile Zubiri admitted that he is hurt after resigning as senate president.
“Medyo masama nga po ang loob ko. Meron pang mga nagte-text sa akin. ‘We’re with you’, ‘Full support po kami’, ‘Kami po ay 100 percent sa ‘yo‘,” according to senator zubiri.
“Wala pang isang araw, wala na. Ang hirap talagang maging pulitiko,” he added.
The former senate president said he saw his ouster coming as early as the middle of last week and adverted to betrayal by colleagues who vowed “full support” as late as over the weekend.
