PH EMBASSY TO FILIPINOS IN KOREA: DO NOT JOIN POLITICAL PROTESTS

Seoul, South Korea — Amid the anticipated politically-inclined mass public assemblies, the Philippine Embassy in Korea reminded Filipinos staying in the said country to avoid participating in such activities.

In an advisory, the Embassy warned Filipinos in Korea to not join any protests and similar public demonstrations that are politically motivated, as it violates the laws of the Republic of Korea.

“The Embassy further reminds Filipinos that under the laws of the Republic of Korea foreigners are prohibited from participating in local political activities, including public demonstrations under Article 17 of the Immigration Control Act (Sojourn and Departure of Foreigners) of South Korea,” the statement reads.

This reminder came after a series of rallies were held in Korea in relation to the impeachment ruling on the country’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.

It can be recalled that the Court cancelled Yoon’s arrest, but the leader is still facing insurrection charges after declaring martial law in the country, which was short-lived.

With the expected rallies and protests, the Embassy advises all Filipino nationals in South Korea to comply and adhere with the country’s law and regulations, as to prevent any issues that may affect their stay in the country.

“Filipino nationals are advised to observe the usual precautions and to avoid crowded and congested public areas,” it added.
