PH EMBASSY WARNS FILIPINOS IN KUWAIT VS. UNAUTHORIZED ASSEMBLIES

Sabah Al Salem, Kuwait — Citing the recent arrest of some Filipinos in Qatar, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait issued a warning to Filipinos in the latter country to avoid organizing and participating in unauthorized gatherings.

In an advisory, the Embassy reminded Filipinos in Kuwait to follow and comply with the local laws and policies in the host country, particularly regarding public gatherings and assemblies.

Under Article 12 of the 1979 Kuwaiti Public gatherings Law No. 65, non-Kuwaitis are not allowed to join any public assemblies and similar activities.

Article 16 of the same law states that organizing and holding off public gatherings without license from the government is also prohibited.

Violators will be penalized with up to two years of imprisonment.

The Philippine embassy noted that this reminder is aimed at ensuring safety and welfare of Filipinos that are working or living in the host country.

It further added that compliance to local policies is one way to avoid any legal complications and consequences in their stays.

Last week, several Filipinos were arrested in Qatar due to alleged unauthorized public demonstrations.
