MANILA — The Philippines is set to host the eFIBA Season 3 World Finals, where the best virtual basketball players from around the globe will compete for the championship title. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) confirmed the announcement on Wednesday.
The finals, marking the culmination of eFIBA Season 3, will be held on December 11-12 at the SMX Clark Convention Center in Pampanga.
“It’s exciting to hold this season’s eFIBA World Finals in the Philippines, given the country’s well-known passion for basketball,” said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis in a statement.
The tournament will feature regional champions from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North and South America, and Oceania, as well as Europe’s runners-up.
Using PlayStation 5 and the latest NBA 2K25, which highlights the Gilas Pilipinas jersey, eight teams will compete in two groups. The top two teams from each group will move on to the semifinals, with the winners advancing to the final showdown.
Fans can watch the matches live on eFIBA’s YouTube channel and other streaming platforms.
Earlier, the UAAP held its own esports contest, where Paolo Medina of Ateneo de Manila University triumphed over De La Salle University’s Kegan Yap in a thrilling three-game series.
