PIMENTEL TO REPLACE HONTIVEROS IN CA MEMBERSHIP

Pasay City, Manila — Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday named Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as the next representative of the minority bloc in the Commission on Appointments.

In a statement, Hontiveros confirmed this decision, announcing that Pimentel shall replace her from the post.

Hontiveros highlighted long experiences of Pimentel, as the current Senate Minority Leader and a former Senate President, as significant in ensuring that only those most qualified individuals will be appointed in key government posts.

“The Commission on Appointments is responsible for vetting and confirming presidential appointments to the Cabinet, Judicial and Bar Council, foreign service, military, and constitutional commissions. With Senator Pimentel continuing the Minority’s representation, we trust that the CA will remain fair, accountable, and transparent.” she added.

In line with this, Hontiveros is set to officially nominate Pimentel in the post on June 2, when the Senate resumes its sessions.

However, if Pimentel assumes the post, he will only have a week, from June 2 to June 13, to serve as Senate minority bloc’s representative in CA as the agency can only confirm appointments if the Congress is in session.
