Vatican City, Rome — Vatican church leader Pope Francis is not out of danger yet, as he suffered sudden respiratory difficulty and was put on a breathing machine on friday.
The latest medical update from the Vatican said that the Pope suffered from a sudden episode of respiratory difficulty, which was complicated by vomiting.
Following this, he was treated for aspiration issues before he was put on a mask-mechanical ventilation.
While the pontiff gets rest and monitored in the hospital, the Vatican says that he is not considered out of danger yet.
Updates on his health and condition are expected to be released in the next 24-48 hours.
It has been two weeks since Pope Francis was hospitalized due to difficulty in breathing, which soon turned out to be bronchitis. Soon after, he was diagnosed with pneumonia on both of his lungs.
The 88 year-old pope had a long medical history in lung-related issues, ever since his childhood.
Following his current condition, the Vatican announced that the pontiff will not be leading the Ash Wednesday service next week, which will be led by a cardinal instead.
Prayers for the pope have poured in from many countries, hoping for his fast recovery.
