DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – The helicopter carrying Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and its foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian crashed while traversing the mountains in heavy fog after their visit to Azerbaijan.
Despite deploying about 40 rescue teams for the search and rescue operation, the severe weather condition and heavy fog made it difficult for the teams to carry out the operation.
Not long after the search and rescue efforts, all the passengers aboard the helicopter that crashed were declared dead, including Iran’s President and foreign minister.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent, upon retrieving the president’s body and the bodies of the other victims, the search was immediately concluded.
The country’s state media also reported that the helicopter made a ‘crash landing’ due to the bad weather, which resulted to the unfortunate event and death of Iranian president and his companions.
Vigils had been held in capital, Tehran, prior to the death’s confirmation.
Meanwhile, several nations have sent their condolences following President Raisi’s passing from the crashing incident.
