Manila, Philippines – Amid the issue of rampant corruption in the country, the Malacañang Palace says that the return of death penalty for corrupt officials is not among the choices right now.
In a Wednesday press briefing, Palace Press Officer undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said that the President is yet to give its position over the matter as this is a complicated idea.
She said that there should be a thorough and deep study on whether death penalty should be reimposed in the country as a penalty for guilty of plunder cases.
Castro noted that the justice system in the country should be strengthened and polished further before talks about death penalty be brought up.
She added that there is a lot to consider as to avoid having innocence people suffer from unfair consequences.
