SENATE TO WELCOME HOUSE PROSECUTION FOR VP SARA IMPEACHMENT RAPS READING SET ON JUNE 2

Pasay City, Philippines — As the Senate of the Philippines readies its transition to the 20th Congress, the Upper Chamber likewise polishes its preparations for the looming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

In connection to the upcoming trial, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero” pens a letter to Speaker Martin Romualdez expressing the chamber’s readiness to receive the House’s panel of prosecutors for the impeachment complaint.

Escudero noted that the Senate shall adhere to their February 24 letter, anticipating the House prosecution to read the impeachment charges by June 2, 2025.

“The Senate shall be ready to receive the House of Representatives’ panel of Prosecutors at 4 o’clock in the afternoon of June 2, 2025,” the letter read.

“As stated in our letter dated February 24,2025, the Senate shall expect the prosecution to read the seven charges under the Articles of Impeachment in open session,” it added.

Copy of the letter sent by Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero addressed to house Speaker Martin Romualdez stating that the Senate is ready to welcome the House prosecution team to read the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Following the process of the trial, Escudero stated that after the reading, the Senate is set to convene as an impeachment court by June 3, 2025, at 9 o’clock in the morning.

Once the Senate convenes as an impeachment court, the Senate shall also start the issuance of summons and other relevant orders.
