That is how Senator Imee Marcos described the impeachment complaint filed by Atty. Andre De Jesus against her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
According to the Senator, the public is aware of the lawyer’s background leading her to believe that the complaint will merely be a year-long drama series.
Meanwhile, Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Pulong Duterte also criticized the impeachment complaint.
In a Facebook post, the Congressman pointed out that De Jesus is the same lawyer who represented First Lady Araneta Marcos when the latter filed a disbarment case against former Representative Glenn Chong back in 2024.
He added that filing the impeachment complaint was a tactic to trigger the one-year ban impeachment proceedings, which prevents any other impeachment charges from being filed against an impeachable official within a year.
Duterte also stressed that the complaint is only a ‘distraction’ from the ongoing corruption investigations in the country.
Following this, in a press briefing on Tuesday, January 20, the Malacanang palace denied allegations that De Jesus is personally connected to the president or that the impeachment was only a plan to invoke the one-year ban in the impeachment.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that there is no truth behind the claim that De Jesus represented First Lady Araneta Marcos in a disbarment case against the mentioned former congressman.
Currently, another group of lawmakers are preparing to file another impeachment complaint against the president.—Shai Morales, Eurotv News
