South Korea – South Korea’s acting President Han Duck-soo was impeached yesterday (December 27) as the motion, led by opposition lawmakers, passed with 192 out of 300 votes.
The opposition brought forward the impeachment motion, accusing Han of being “actively involved in the insurrection” that followed ex-president Yoon Suk-Yeol declaration of martial law on Dec. 3.
Han was also accused of dismissing the appointment of three judges to the nation’s Constitutional Court.
Members of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), meanwhile, protested the decision, calling it invalid and politically driven.
He assumed the role for only two weeks after Suk-Yeol’s impeachment.
