STATE WEATHER BUREAU SAYS FIRST TROPICAL DEPRESSION MAY STRIKE NEXT WEEK

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Wednesday that a low-pressure area (LPA) may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Based on Pagasa’s monitoring, a cloud cluster outside the PAR has begun to evolve into an LPA.

According to the forecast from the state weather bureau, the LPA may be felt on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. However, Pagasa clarified that while there is little chance of the emerging weather turning into a tropical depression, the possibility is not ruled out.

If it becomes a tropical depression, it is expected to make landfall in the Bicol Region or Eastern Visayas.

Earlier, Pagasa indicated the possibility of up to thirteen to sixteen typhoons entering the country this year.

According to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), there is a 62% chance of experiencing La Niña by June.
