Khartoum, Sudan — “Today the flag is raised, the palace is back, and the journey continues until victory is complete,” information minister Khalid Al-Aiser wrote on X.
This announcement from the information minister of Sudan marked the successful efforts of the country’s Armed Forces in reclaiming the Presidential palace from the rebel’s previous take over.
On March 21, the Sudan government announced that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have already seized control of the Presidential Palace in the country’s capital, Khartoum, which was held by paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the eruption of the war in April 2023.
The Sudanese justice ministry described this victory as a symbol of national integrity, and is crucial for both the military and people displaced by the war.
During the course of the war, over 28,000 were reported dead, with 11 million others left displaced.
“Our forces…completely destroyed the enemy’s personnel and equipment and seized large quantities of its equipment and weapons,” a military spokesperson said in a statement.
Despite this, the government and the military also acknowledged the battle is not over yet, and their mission will continue until victory is completely attained.
The RSF also said that their presence remains and still carries out military operations against the government troops.
