Washingtion, USA – United States President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet for what is expected to be their final interaction before Donald Trump assumes office as newly US president-elect.
The meeting will occur during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, November 16.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan highlighted the importance of stability during the meeting period, saying, “Part of what President Biden will communicate is that we need to maintain stability, clarity, predictability through this transition between the United States and China,”
The leaders are anticipated to address a range of global issues, including escalating tensions between the U.S. and China regarding Taiwan, the South China Sea, and Chinese support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Biden is also expected to raise concerns over a Chinese-linked hacking group that recently targeted U.S. telecommunications.
This marks the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since their phone call in April, where Biden focused on easing tensions surrounding Taiwan’s presidential inauguration and disputes in the South China Sea.
