VMGG SUPPORTS CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND JUSTICE IN ANOMALOUS FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS

Manila, Philippines – More Local Officials unite to support full transparency, accountability, and justice in anomalous flood control projects discovered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In the latest list of local officials, 39 vice mayors from across the country have signed the petition, which aims to expose all corruption and irregularities happening in several government projects.

In a statement released by the Vice Mayors for Good Governance (VMGG), they expressed their full support for President Marcos in condemning the misuse of public funds for illegal activities.

Local leaders also emphasized that every centavo that goes into the pockets of corrupt officials results in severe harm to every Filipino, especially in the case of flood control projects, which are considered vital to the country to prevent widespread flooding during the rainy season.

Among the VMGG’s calls is for the government projects, especially those related to flood control, to be made accessible to the public so that citizens know where their money is going.

Another key point is granting local governments the right and a larger role in planning, monitoring, and thoroughly reviewing projects to ensure that the infrastructures being built in their jurisdictions are beneficial to the community and not just driven by the interests of politicians or businesses.

The Vice Mayors for Good Governance have also called on all local officials, as well as those in higher positions in the government, to join in this call and set aside personal interests, instead committing to honest public service.

It is worth noting that the Mayors for Good Governance previously released their list of signatories.
