VP SARA’S ANNOUNCEMENT NOT TO RUN FOR 2028 POLL, FAVOURS COUNTRYMEN — GABRIELA

Manila Philippines — The minority block in the lower chamber of Congress criticized Vice President Sara Duterte’s statement that she will not run the presidency in the 2028 national and local elections.

According to Gabriela Women’s Party Representative, Duterte’s statement is not credible, especially since his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, also made previous statements related to running for the election, but later on filed his certificate of candidacy.

“We don’t believe that he inherited from his father – supposedly he doesn’t want to run but later he will file a candidacy,” said Brosas.

Brosas further explained that if Duterte does not run for any position, it will bring good to the country, because it spare off personal political interests and not the welfare of the public.

“But if Vice President Duterte indeed refrains from running, it would be her greatest contribution to the country, as it spares our nation from a continuation of governance that prioritizes personal interests over public welfare,” added Brosas.

The lawmaker emphasized the complaints against his father, former president Duterte regarding the issue of human rights violations due to the previous administration’s bloody war against illegal drugs and extrajudicial killings.

Yesterday, during the hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance on the proposed budget of the Office of the Vice President fo fiscal year 2025, the vice president announced that she has no plans to run for the presidency in the 2028 elections.

VP Sara also said that she doesn’t care if the House of Representatives impeach her.

“I won’t lose anything if they impeach me. I ran for vice president in 2022 because I needed to continue the development projects in Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon. I thought that these projects would be given priority if I became the vice president ,” Duterte said at the Senate hearing.

According to ACT Teacher’s Partyist Representative France Castro, there is no letter ‘H’ which means ‘honesty’ in the name of VP Sara.

“Her name has no letter “H” [for honesty]!,” said Castro in a statement.
