41 PEOPLE DIED DUE TO SEVERE FLOODING, LANDSLIDE IN INDONESIA

Jakarta Indonesia – The death toll from widespread flooding in Indonesia has risen to 41.

Based on the latest advisory by the Indonesian authorities, at least 20 people are still being sought after heavy rains hit, causing flooding and landslides in some areas.

Over 1000 houses were destroyed, and 42 of them were severely damaged.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that no Filipino based in Indonesia was among the casualties.

“The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta (PE-Jakarta) has yet to receive reports that OFWs or Filipino nationals were harmed or injured. MWO-SG is coordinating closely with PE-Jakarta to monitor the situation,” according to the DMW in a statement.

But the Migrant Workers Office in Singapore assures that they continue to monitor the impact of the disaster on the Overseas Filipino Workers in the Western part of Sumatra in Indonesia.

“Migrant Workers Office in Singapore (MWO-SG), is closely monitoring the impact on overseas Filipinos (OFWs) and Filipino communities of severe flooding and mudslides in West Sumatra, Indonesia, which happened over the weekend,” the agency added.

The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta continues to coordinate with the Filipinos there.

Heavy rains hit the said country where the districts of Agam and Tanah Datar near Padang in West Sumatra are severely affected.

There are about 8000 Filipinos based in Indonesia.
