TRUMP BACKS ‘PALESTINIAN TECHNOCRATIC GOVERNANCE’ OFFICIALS

Washington, United States — U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday expressed support for the newly formed Palestinian Technocratic Governance.

This statement comes a day after his United States Special Envoy announced the launch of Phase Two of the Gaza 20-point peace agreement, where the said governance will be a part of.

According to Trump, the second phase has now officially started.

Trump also praised the officials tasked with overseeing Gaza’s transitional governance.

The technocratic body will be composed of 15 members, led by Ali Shaath, a former Deputy Minister of Transportation of the Palestinian Authority.

The interim administration is expected to focus on daily governance and humanitarian coordination in Gaza after the two year war between Palestinian Militant group Hamas and Israel.

Oversight of the transitional government will fall under an international “Board of Peace,” which will supervise Gaza’s administration during the transition period.

More details about the board will be announced in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Trump also reiterated his call for Hamas to immediately fulfill its commitments, including disarming and turning over the remains of the final Israeli hostage.

Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey are expected to help broker what Trump described as a “comprehensive demilitarization agreement” with Hamas.

However, Hamas has so far refused to disarm, remaining a major obstacle to the peace plan.

These unresolved issues fall under the still incomplete first phase of the agreement, which has been marked by a fragile ceasefire from ongoing violence and restrictions on humanitarian aid.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 440 Palestinians have been reported killed since the truce began in October.

This number brings to the total death toll of over 70,000 Palestinians.
