PH, US SOLDIERS CARRIED OUT INTEGRATED AIR, DEFENSE MISSILE IN 2026 BALIKATAN EXERCISES

Manila, Philippines – Filipino and American soldiers showcased their ability during operate integrated air and defense missiles exercises during the continuation of the Balikatan exercises.

According to a statement by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the drill was conducted at Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui in San Antonio, Zambales, where a coordinated, ground-to-air defense system was demonstrated to provide a robust defense against the threat of aerial attacks.

During the exercise, Filipino and American soldiers detected, tracked and engaged simulated targets through a seamless sensor-to-shooter process.

Early warnings were reportedly analyzed and relayed to tactical units, enabling immediate engagement through the Philippine Air Force SPYDER Air Defense System, including assets from the United States, the Avenger, and the US Marine Corps Marine Air Defense Integrated System.

The integration of unmanned aerial systems is to enhance the capacity of the participants in countering aerial threats.

Balikatan 2026 began on April 20 and is scheduled to end on May 8.

An estimated 17,000 soldiers from the Philippines, the United States, Australia, Japan, Canada, France and New Zealand participated in various exercises aimed at strengthening the defense capability of each allied country.

The Japan-Air Defense Force, is overseeing the exercise as a show of solidarity with countries that share the same desire for stability and security in the Indo-Pacific Region.

Several lawmakers are strongly opposing these exercises, due to the disruption it is causing to the livelihood of Filipino fishermen in Zambales, particularly in 21 villages.

With this, the Gabriela Women’s Party is calling on the Marcos administration to stop the Balikatan Exercises and scrap agreements that allow foreign soldiers to conduct activities in the country.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
