VP SARA’S RESIGNATION AS DEPED SECRETARY IS EXPECTED – POLITICAL ANALYST

Manila, Philippines – Almost a week after the resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte as secretary of the Department of Education (DEPed), most people expected it, according to some political analysts in the country.

In a press conference at the Manila Hotel, Professor Edmund Tayao said that they expected the resignation of VP Sara following the cut of her budget at DEPed.

Tayao also said the vice president had a good relationship with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., even though there are differences within the circles of the two parties.

“The president still relied and trusted the vice president, every time aalis ang pangulo before ‘kung natatandaan natin ang naiiwang caretaker ay ang pangalawang pangulo, ito ay iba duon sa mga nakita
kong pangulo before na madalas ang naiiwan ay ang executive secretary,” according to tayao.

The question that will be left to him now is whether there will be changes in who will lead the country while the president is out of the country.

Tayao asked about his preference for appointing and choosing the next secretary of the department based on the system of President Marcos’ work.

“Hindi ko alam kung magiging ganun parin yung arrangement, ng…pangulo at ng pangalawang pangulo no, so..i’ve seen him work first hand talagang hands on ang pangulo. ‘So mahirap i anticipate o hulaan kung sino ang papalit,” he added.

As for former Senator Antonio Trillanes, it will be a welcome development for them if former VP Leni Robredo is appointed as the secretary of the department.

“… welcome development yan samin kung mangyayari yon but, …realistically speaking medyo mababa ang probability,” trillanes said.

Trillanes said Robredo also showed her interest in running for the local position in Naga City, which is supported by the Pink Movement.

Meanwhile, Trilalanes has not yet ruled out his re-entry into politics, where he expressed his interest in running for mayor in Caloocan City.

The former senator also revealded that he rejected offers to run for senator in 2025 and was persuaded to run for a local position.

It is said that it is possible for Trillanes to announce his real plan for the upcoming elections in the next few months.
