Manila, Philippines – Public school teachers may soon receive a higher Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has tasked the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to collaborate on implementing the increase.
Currently set at Php 18,000, the SRI for an estimated 1,011,800 DepEd personnel is proposed to increase to Php 20,000.
In preparation, Marcos tasked the DBM and DepEd to explore funding solutions that align with fiscal constraints.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara welcomed the move, describing it as a morale booster for educators.
“This initiative underscores our shared goal of empowering teachers and reinforcing their critical role in shaping the future of Filipino learners,” Angara said.
Further updates on the proposed increase are expected as the agencies are still yet to finalize the budgetary measures required.
