Manila Philippines – Former senator Bam Aquino was appointed as the new chairperson of the political party Katipunan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KANP).
Based on the statement this Tuesday, Aquino’s camp announced the appointment of the former senator to the new political party KANP.
One of the members of this party is the human rights lawyer, Atty. Chel Diokno, who ran in the senatorial bet under Otso Diretso slate.
In the statement by Atty. Diokno, they welcomed Aquino’s chairmanship to lead the political party.
“Buong pagmamalaki naming hinahayag ang pagtalaga kay dating Senador Bam Aquino bilang chairman ng partido,” Diokno said in the statement.
KANP emphasized the track record of the former senator where he passed 50 laws during his term, this includes free tuition for Filipinos in State Universities through the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
“As we enter another pivotal chapter in our country’s political history, KANP will present itself as a viable alternative for Filipinos weary of traditional politics and politicians,” Aquino said.
Aquino began offering guidance on the party’s initiatives even before he was named chairman. Additionally, he managed former vice president Leni Robredo’s presidential campaign.
In an interview, the former senator also announced his return to the politics and his run for the seat in next year’s midterm election.
“Naghahanda na kami at naghahanda na rin ako bumalik sa larangan ng pulitika,” Aquino said.
Although he is appointed as KANP chairman, Bam will run for the position under the still liberal party, together with KANP member Diokno and former senator Kiko Pangilinan.
