CASE OF HEAT STROKE IN CHICKEN, CONFIRMED IN PANGASINAN

The Pangasinan Provincial Veterinary Office (OPVET) confirmed a case of heat stroke in poultry animals such as chickens due to the extreme heat that the province experiences and in the other parts of the country.

Due to these extreme heat experienced in the province of Pangasinan, the area recorded heat stroke in chickens.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the highest heat index recorded in Pangasinan was 51°C on April 29, 2024.

Several chickens suddenly collapsed and died due to the extreme heat, according to Dr. Aracely Robeniol, Officer-in-Charge of the Pangasinan Veterinary Office.

Robeniol said that they are exposed to extreme heat and they are not given regular water to drink that can be the possible reason.

“Sila talaga ay exposed sa extreme heat. Pangalawa, hindi na sila nabibigyan ng regular na tubig na inumin, kaya ‘yan ang possible na nakikita naming [kaso] pagdating sa mga backyard raiser,” Robeniol said.

While OPVET continues to monitor poultry farms, poultry farm owners are advised to implement preventive measures to avoid the increase in chicken mortality during hot weather.

OPVET also ensured that there is an adequate supply of chicken in the market.

However, the price per kilo of chicken the barangays under Pangasinan has increased to P200.
