LEGISLATOR ASSURES DEEPER PROBE OVER CHINA’S WIRETAPPING, GENTLEMAN’S DEAL

Manila Philippines — A lawmaker in the lower chamber of Congress assured that the said agreement in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) will undergo a thorough investigation.

According to Kabataan Partylist Representative Raoul Manuel, it should be determined in the Congress hearing when the said gentleman’s agreement and the wiretapping operation done by the Chinese Embassy in Manila began.

“… we sense that there will be reciprocating hearings at the committee level, so it would be good to have that as soon as possible so that the details related to the gentlemen’s agreement can be settled because it will be discussed when it started,” said Manuel in a press conference.

The lawmaker insisted, it must come out in the investigation if it actually reached the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the said agreement.

“… what was the duration and was it spilled into the Marcos Jr. administration. Those things, that will be answered when other members of the chamber are seated,” added Manuel.

The Department of National Defense and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) recently warned that anyone involved in wiretapping, which is a violation of Philippine law, could be expelled in the country.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez himself said that the House will investigate the wiretapping incident and the involvement in the gentleman’s agreement.

In a separate version of the Senate, Senator Francis Tolentino filed yesterday the Resolution that aims to summon those involved in the wiretapping incident to the Senate Committee on National Defense.
