COMELEC: OVER 4.2M VOTERS TO PULL OUT FROM THE LIST

Manila, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported on Friday that more than 4.2 million inactive voters will be removed from the official list of voters in the country as of May 17, 2024.

Based on COMELEC data, most of those removed from the list failed to vote in two subsequent regular elections, were not permitted by the court to vote, and failed to validate.

“4.2 million voters will be deactivated. Hence, it is deductible to the present total number . of voters of 68 million,” said the Comelec chairperson.

The majority of these inactive voters came from Region IV-A, which reached 733,245.

According to Comelec Chairman Atty. George Garcia, it is possible to increase the number of removals in the following days.

As of May 5, 2024, more than 2.5 million new voters have registered to vote for the National and Local Elections (NLE) 2025; this almost reaches the target of 3 million new voters.

Voter registration will be closed on September 30, 2024.
