Manila Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has increased financial assistance for distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families.
By virtue of Department Order No. 5 an additional aid is stated under the Immediate Protection and Relief for OFWs in Need or (ACTION) Fund of the DMW.
This covers legal, medical, financial and other types of assistance to OFWs, as well as repatriation, repatriation of remains, evacuation, rescue and other types of protection of the rights of Filipinos.
From the previous P30,000 financial assistance, the DMW’s financial assistance has been raised from P50,000, P75,000, to P100,000 depending on the type of their needs and what they went through while abroad.
Specifically, forced repatriation, or evacuation in the midst of economic downturn, natural calamities, human-trafficking and other types of unexpected situations.
According to the DMW, this is as part of ensuring that OFWs right are well protected.
