The Department of Justice is preparing to file a case against the aunt of one of the minor suspects in the Tacloban school shooting.
According to the DOJ, the Tacloban prosecution recommended filing a case for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries against Police Staff Sergeant Arla Ray Pacencia.
Pacencia is reportedly the aunt of one of the minors involved in the shooting at San Jose National High School.
According to the DOJ, the case is set to be filed before the Family Court of the Tacloban City Regional Trial Court.
The DOJ said the recommendation stemmed from a preliminary investigation conducted following complaints filed by parents and students of the school where the incident took place.
“The recommendation follows the preliminary investigation conducted on the complaint filed by parents and students of San Jose National High School, in connection with the shooting incident involving a Child in Conflict with the Law,”
Last June, two minors were involved in a shooting inside a school in Tacloban.
Three students were killed, while several others were injured in the incident.
Following the incident, the DOJ urged Congress to prioritize the passage of laws addressing the threat of nihilistic violent extremism, particularly measures aimed at protecting young people from groups that promote violence.
