Manila, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reminded Filipinos in Europe over the implementation of stricter border control measures in the Schengen Area.
In a statement on Thursday, DMW noted that the European Union member states have temporarily reinstated border controls, pursuant to the Schengen Borders Code (SBC).

This is in response to security threats to public policy or internal security.
Among the countries in the Schengen area that recently enforced heightened border controls are Denmark, Norway, Slovenia, and Sweden.
Expect checkpoints on cross-border trains, increased surveillance, permanent stationed police officers, and use of face recognition technology.
Following this, DMW told OFWs and Filipinos in Europe to exercise caution in crossing borders within the Schengen area, especially in the mentioned countries.
Among the reminders are to always possess and carry with them their valid passports, visa or residence permits, and other pertinent documents when traveling.
Meanwhile, other states sharing borders with Switzerland are also implementing the said measure, such as Austria, France, Germany, and Italy.
